Post Surgery Update (one)

This is just a brief update for now. We are doing fine– tired, but okay. We saw the dr. today and he took out the plastic stints (or whatever they are called) from within the nose and that is a relief. The splint on my right side nostril area was really becoming difficult to deal with in the nose and it was really triggering some of the younger ones with various thoughts and feelings and sensations of other things and so forth. Hence the strange post last night.

So we can breathe now through our nose. :-) There’s still some swelling and healing left to do, but I’ve actually been able to feel the air flow in and out of my nose. It’s a strange sensation to actually sense an airway/air passage, airflow current like I have been sensing. It’s going to take some time to retrain my mind and body to breathe through my nose, but I’m looking forward to it. It really makes me/us slow down because breathing through the nose is a lot different than mouth breathing.

I had to go to the ER Saturday night due to nausea, err vomiting, and likely dehydration as a result. It was probably caused by a combination of various things– the antibiotic I was taking, the pain medication, blood draining from my nose down my throat and into my stomach, forgetting to take my anti-depressants until 3 days later, moving around more than I had that day, and eating more regular food than I should have, etc. I’m so glad I had a friend of mine, Wandering Sail, with me as she is a nurse and I wouldn’t have known to go to the ER as I’d have to be on ‘deaths bed’ before I’d ever go to an ER. So she helped me Saturday afternoon until Sunday evening at my house. I was at my mom’s before and after then, and then came home again on Tuesday.

We’ve mostly been resting but also trying to get a few things done here and there. I’m babysitting my brother’s dog this week and so I need to go to his house tonight. He’s giving me his gas card so that I can use it and have the freedom of driving back and forth to his house and mine. That is really nice as we will be doing that. Oakley is used to Bryan being gone for work and so we can leave during the day and come back in the evenings and play with Oakley and stuff. We’d bring him to our place, but Oakley seems much happier at his own house and is much calmer. We might try having him come over to our place for a little bit and see how he does, but the last time we had Oakley visit us here, we decided “never again,” will we do that as he was far too restless with all the sounds and scents and newness of everything. And taking Oakley for walks around here still didn’t calm him down. Anyway, so we think it will be good anyway– get us up and moving and out of the “house” each day probably and we’re hoping to utilize this time in a positive manner (getting stuff done) while also resting and taking it easy so the body can heal.

  • Dogs are really good for keeping you out of bed and on your toes. I cannot stay in bed all day with Cap in the house because of large puddles and other “things.” I don’t leave him out there for an extended period of time by himself which means I don’t go to bed with him outside. Dogs and pets in general are really helpful in assisting us with self care.
